Abstract: The essential principle and function of electromotor soft starter were introduced, the application of the soft starter in drainage system of hydroelectric power station was analyzed. The soft starter was compared with conventional electromotor control mode, the advantages of soft starter over conventional electromotor control mode were pointed out, and the improvement proposal for conventional control mode was given.
