Abstract: In the design of water intake and drainage engineering for coastal nuclear power plants, the influence of multiple aspects, such as the coast stability, the variation of sediment flushing on the seabed, the tide level, the wave, the sediment and the sea creatures in the sea area near the plant, must be considered. Through the engineering project analysis, the optimized scheme between the hydraulic engineering allocation, the structure and the heat dissipation capacity was put forward, and the key points in design of the water intake and drainage project were given. It was pointed out finally that for the water intake and drainage project of coastal nuclear power plant, the engineering scheme must be determined on the base of the technical and economical comparison and argumentation of several schemes, the hydraulic numerical simulation calculation and the physical model experiment. 
