Abstract: For the install position of the 220kV metal zinc oxide arrester (MOA) is higher from the earth, in maintenance and preliminary test of MOA, larger amount of work must be spent to demolish the lead wires and this causes certain risk. A new test method was developed, in which to demolish the lead wires is not needed. To use the new method can lighten working strength, shorten working time and reduce the risk of persons and equipments. The theoretical feasibility and practically measured data of the new test method used in test of 220kV MOA were analyzed; and the analysis shows that the practically data of the MOA measured by the new method is comparable with the data measured by original method, in which the lead wires of MOA must be demolished; and the new test method can satisfy the requirement of relative regulations.
