Abstract: In a power generation company, the dedicated fault recorder was not configured for the smallcapacity generatortransformer set, and this does not accord with the rule of the file DL/T 553—1994, ‘The technical criteria for transient fault recording in 220～500kV power system’. Therefore, several improvement plans were put forward. Various improvement plans were analyzed and compared with each other from many aspects, such as the analog variable connected into the fault recorder, the installation sites, the number of the fault recorders, the access positions of the analog variables and the length of the secondary cable. The best improvement plan was recommended and implemented.
