Benchmarking and optimal operation of 600MW thermal power plant

Abstract:

In this paper, the comparative study was carried out between two 600MW thermal power plant (A and B) with similar power units and load factor but significantly different operation economics. The annual generation capacity of plant B is 97.6% of plant A, but it has created 143.9% of the annual profit in comparison to plant A. Major economic indicators of plant A and B were normalized using benchmarking, and their influences on the coal assumption are calculated for comparative study. The research revealed that as integrated power plant, plant A has a higher power consumption rate,bigger condenser difference,and higher exhaust temperature, which results in its poor performance in its operation economics. 5.343g/(kW·h) of coal consumption of power supply was affected by the three factors above, which occupies 84.3% of the total. According to the actual unit setup, technological modification measures are suggested.
