Abstract: Based on the analysis of the conversion efficiency of hydraulic energy into impeller mechanical energy during the flowing of rivers, prototypes of a 1kW, a 5kW, a 10kW and a 50kW hydraulic turbine generator unit were designed and tested in different channels. The energy utilization coefficient(Cpt) of the four generator units were 0.390, 0.406, 0.373 and 0.409 respectively. This scheme verified the feasibility of power generation by river current directly and taking hydraulic power transmission to replace the doublegear transmission. The influence of impeller diameter, impeller series and flaring inflowconcentration device on the output power of the hydraulic turbine generator unit was studied, which provided a theoretical basis for the river current energy utilization.
