Present situation and prospect of carbon capture and utilization technology assisted by renewable energy, waste heat and synergistic

Abstract: Carbon capture,storage (CCS) and utilization is an important technology for achieving near-zero CO2 emissions and carbon neutrality. However, the cost and energy consumption increase due to the CCS, leading the energy efficiency of power system decreases. The energy efficiency of the system can be enhanced and the energy consumption of CCS can be reduced by using renewable energy for carbon capture and storage. A review and analysis of the technology developments and problems are presented for the solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy and waste heat, as well as multi-energy coupling used in carbon capture and storage technology. The future development trend of carbon capture and storage technologies using renewable energy is foreseen. The review indicates that with the innovation technology and development of renewable energy and waste heat, the cost of carbon capture can be reduced and the energy efficiency of the system can be improved. Comprehensive utilization and matching of solar cooling, heat, electricity, light and chemical conversion to assist the carbon capture and storage technology is very important to use potential solar energy. For renewable energy, waste heat and multi-energy coupling assisted carbon capture, the main focus should be on process matching, energy cascade optimization, and comprehensive evaluation and index systems need to be completed.
